Key ingredient: Allantoin
What is Allantoin?
Allantoin occurs naturally in many plant species, but most abundantly in the comfrey root. It is an ingredient recommended for sensitive skin prone to allergies.
Effects of allantoin:
- Soothes: effectively reduces redness and burning.
- Regenerates: supports the process of epidermis renewal.
- Additionally, it softens and smooths the skin.
How does allantoin differ from panthenol?
Both ingredients soothe, but allantoin acts more superficially, softening and smoothing the epidermis and stimulating cell division, while panthenol penetrates deeper and binds water. They are often used together for synergy.
